Community Grants

Follow the dollar: how local funding works.

Where does grant money come from, and how does it end up helping your neighbors? As Starke County's Local Coordinating Council, the coalition turns designated prevention funding into local grants — keeping decisions, and dollars, close to home. Here's how it flows.

The journey of a grant dollar

From a state dollar to a program down the street.

The plan starts with what the data says about Starke County — from our surveys and focus groups — and turns it into a clear set of priorities, objectives, and evidence-based strategies. It's the connective tissue between our assessment and everything the coalition actually does.
  • Stage 1 · The source

  • Stage 2 · The coalition

  • Stage 3 · Member agencies

  • Stage 4 · The community

  • State-designated prevention funding

Indiana supports substance-use prevention at the local level through its network of Local Coordinating Councils. As Starke County's designated LCC, the Hub Coalition is the local body entrusted to direct these prevention dollars where they're needed most.
  • Local coordination & planning

The coalition uses county data and community input — the Strategic Prevention Framework in action — to identify Starke County's real needs, then plans how to invest the available funding for the greatest local impact.
  • Grants to local organizations

Through community grants, funding flows to member agencies — schools, nonprofits, and local groups — who run the programs and services on the ground. In 2026, that meant $38,000 invested directly into Starke County efforts.
  • Real impact for residents

The end of the journey is the whole point: students reached, families supported, prevention strengthened, and a healthier Starke County. Every dollar is meant to come back to the people who live here.
Why it's decided locally

Local money, local decisions.

The advantage of a Local Coordinating Council is that the people deciding where prevention dollars go actually live and work here. That keeps funding responsive to Starke County’s real needs — not a one-size-fits-all plan from somewhere else.

  • Assess local needs

Using county data and community voices to see what Starke County actually faces.
  • Prioritize & plan

Deciding where limited dollars will do the most good, together as a coalition.
  • Award & support grants

Getting funding into the hands of trusted local organizations doing the work.
  • Track the results

Following up on what the funding achieved, so future decisions get even smarter.

Now you know how it works — put it to work.

If your organization has an idea that fits, the next step is simple. Members can apply for a share of this funding.
